This has been a busy week! The start of my university life, well i must say I was a rack of nerves the first morning but it didn't last long at all. I couldn't believe how nice all the people were, students and staff, and how easily we could all talk. Freshers week consisted of a few things to help us all get to know one another; we all participated in a quiz one morning which was really cool, we got to know what each other knew about a lot of things.
There was also a trip to Manchester which i particularly enjoyed. It really brought us all together trying to find our way around a strange place (although we had a little help from a native!) I really enjoyed the Mathew Williamson exhibition at the Urbis. I felt i got a lot out of seeing his work and I managed to take a few photos. I think a lot of his work was relevant to my summer work too, on layers and tears as he used a lot of silk Georgette layered up.
We also took a look around the back street parts on Manchester, looking at the vintage shops in the Afleck centre and we found a really good fabric shop too called Abercame, it was quite cheap too!
on the first day of the second week at uni we were all given a little quiz for us to do which would give us an insight on how we learn. We had to guess this and make a graph on how we each thought we learnt as individuals, and then we were to take to test and re-do the graph with accurate results. I actually think i did a good job at guessing, it turns out i am mostly a visual learner, and work equally well, but I'm guessing it depends on the circumstances, alone and in a social group. I think this will help me a lot actually, knowing how my brain works and how to get the most out of it.
I must say I'm looking forward to the rest of my time here.
