finishing projects

I feel like Ive hit a milestone, completing and handing in all my first projects.

I have had my Critical studies presentation, which i think went rather well, even though i was shaky and slurring my words, but i wasn't the only one. It was a good opportunity to see other peoples point of views on the texts too. 

I finished my Tuesday project, the garment made from a pair of trousers, a bag and a shirt, i think it turned out rather good, a really nice silhouette, and a different shape. I even made a stencil in the style of Caroline Broadhead and used silver spray paint to finish the top off with. After using it to do a few illustrations from, I used my friend Ella to model it in Hyde park for the photo shoot. I was going for the whole, relaxed, play full mood for the photo which i think was represented in the garments shape, so i had Ella playing with some fallen leaves, which also fits in nicely with the 'it fell from the sky' theme. I was happy with my sketch book work for this project too, i love how sketch books tell a whole story and process' over the eight weeks or so that i had gone through, when i look back on it i realise how much projects absorb me.

I had also managed, in the three short weeks, to start and finish the pattern design and making of a found image of a garment for the Friday session, my garment/photo was off a Micheal Korr dress from Harvey Nichols which is £990, which i am very proud of! i found this project challenging in the best possible way. I loved the pattern designing and the whole process really, i must admit there was a lot of un-picking that had to be done, but hopefully i will have learnt from the mistakes that i made. I found i was making really small and silly mistakes, so i will have to remember to take more time to think before acting when making another garment next time. The dress was made in Calico for the project, but i would love to make it in some wool fabric or some Tweed. 

I also managed to get together my thirty illustrations, which turned out quite good really, i was pleased with the range of techniques i had used, although some were repeated a few too many times maybe. They looked really good all bound together though, and i never thought i would reach thirty images, it seemed so much when we first got given the brief.

On the whole i am glad to have the first projects out of the way with, i have had a lot of fun with them. I can't wait to see what the next ones are.

reading week work and the week back.

during reading week i focused on doing my critical studies presentation, reading through the texts and making notes, trying to figure out what i was actually going to do.

i spent a bit of time working in my sketch book/research book for Tuesdays session and i did a few more drawings for the Wednesdays session too. 

i spent a lot of time working on my five CAD images for the Wednesday session too, i managed to complete five images, i just want to photocopy them in colour when i next get the chance and enlarge them to A3 size from A4.

i worked on my pattern too of the Micheal Kors dress that i am making for the Friday session too, and i even started making a mock up in jersey fabric to iron out any thing that wasn't right.

When i went back on the Monday after reading week i spent the morning in uni working on my critical studies presentation, getting my final layout done and making my notes make sense. i then had a tutorial with Marcel, my tutor, making sure everything was on track, he settled my nerves a little bit too.

In the Tuesday session i got loads of work done, i only got another two pages in my sketch book done, but i worked on a full sized mannequin in the afternoon with the pair of trousers, shirt and bag that i have to use in my final piece, i came up with some really interesting shapes, i cant wait to see it all come together.

On Friday, i had to change quite a bit of my pattern for the Micheal Kors dress, as my style lines were in the wrong places. i started to put the garment together, there are a few mistakes though so i need to unpick, re-sew and re-cut some of the pieces. i want this piece to be perfect and look just like the photo.
